TGC 2019 features Black Lake GC, Michigan, a course module designed by Albert Marriott. This simulation recreates the renowned Black Lake Golf Club, located at 2800 Maxon Rd in Onaway, Michigan. Built in 2000 by architects Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead, the original public course offers 18 holes of traditional design. It stretches 7,046 yards, plays to a par 72, and carries a formidable slope of 143. The fairways blend Pennlinks and Providence grasses, while the greens use pure Providence, delivering consistent play across all surfaces.
Set deep within a 1,000-acre forest, the course flows through birch and maple woods. The layout respects the land’s natural contours. Lakes, marshes, ravines, and even a sand quarry shape the challenge. Cranberry bogs and wild terrain lend the course a rugged beauty. With no housing nearby, silence dominates, broken only by birds or a distant rustle of deer. Certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, Black Lake supports rich biodiversity. Each hole tells its own story, none more iconic than the massive bunker guarding the par-3 14th, known simply as “Sahara.”
